Her vocals are as smooth and tender as ever, and the melodywriting here (owing a lot of credit to the wonderful Victoria Monet) creates these flowing motifs without perhaps a standout hook-moments that some fans were yearning from, but rather waves of melodic ups and downs that flow smooth as butter, as the lovely string arrangements (my gosh, listen to those gorgeous descending tones on Shut Up) compliment the tone of the album really nicely. It's a musically modest album, confident in it being able to deliver with its melody-strengths and sweet attitude (and it is sweet! Even though it does get "nasty" as the track title implies) full of sensuality, closeness, desire and comfort. Highlights: pov, positions, shut up.
Another great rnb album that sees Kali exploring Latin pop and alternative rnb with a futuristic edge very popular among members
Kali Uchis keeps growing as an artist, embracing her latin pop and reggaeton influences on this album that has consistent songwriting and the mood of a 70s noir film full of mystery and sensuality. She creates a lane for herself, still her alternative r&b-influences being intact but this more interesting melting pot of sounds creating something more interesting with the songwriting and her amazing voice being as good as ever.
Brief banger of a mixtape, Bree Runway gives some of the most exciting music of the year full of energetic, manic and creative electropop-pop rap-r&b tunes that are influenced (and include as feats) the likes of Missy Elliott and Rico Nasty, with a sound that's futuristic, eclectic and mostly extremely well realized.
it united the gays in a beautiful harmony, great tunes and vocals to die for. that good shit
Just a really damn catchy record, super sick production, vocalist is crazy, great homages to 3 decades of modern pop
just really unique writing. dude is a crazy good poet and taking the rock stuff from "nectar" and crafting really hypnotising arty pop makes my week, month & year.
what a return to form! longstreth & co not only gave us 5 distinct projects but music ranging from alt r&b to cozy bossa-folk to glitched-out post-minimalism, all with the polished songwriting and production that their previous experiments in these genres might have missed.
one of lucy's tightest batches of songs yet, you can seriously see how much his production has evolved to reach the same levels of eccentric and mind-blowing as his songwriting. i also have a crush on him.
wasn't super into it on my first listen, but i kept finding myself itching to return to these songs more and more until i eventually realized it's some of the most expertly catchy and danceable disco revival ever revived.
Excellent modern rnb record done by the main writer for Ariana Grande that has beautiful production and gorgeous harmony work. Underrated record from this year
Ahead of its time hypnogogic pop ep with multiple internet genre influences all with gorgeous melody work harmonies and bassy 80s production
Kate NV is a great producer and singer, pretty and peaceful album. And shows off by singing in four different languages
A simple and fun J-pop album full of exaggerated EDM production, all bangers
Catchy pop album, Clarence Clarity production is quite unique, XS and Bad Friend are some of the best songs in 2020. I'm glad that Rina got a huge growth last year
It's such a surprise that Shiraha hasn't gotten any attention, especially when considering how excellent this record was. This is a wonderful J-pop record with future bass influences, with incredibly infectious and adorable melodies, which keeps you hooked throughout the whole record.
Cindy Lee - What’s Tonight to Eternity (such great pop sensibility hiding under the noise and devastating emotions of this record)
